Full Moon Party

Honey I drank the Sangria

Full Moon has intrigued people for ages. In China they based their calendar on the phases of the moon, and they have an offer ritual at every full moon. In Buddhism they celebrate Vesakha Puja, the birth, enlightment and passing of Buddha which all happened at full moon. In Hinduism Holi-Phagwa and Holikadahan are both situated at full moon or the day after full moon. More recently a group of tourist found that the most beautiful sunset was on the island of Koh Phangan and decided to organize a celebration for it. This celebration is now one of the biggest monthly party where thousands of people dance. The party has spread throughout the world and one of the iconic things of the party is people sharing their drinks. What better drink to share then the Sangria?

The Drink

Sangria is a typical Spanish/Portuguese summer drink. It is a drink to share and it is a drink to celebrate. In the 17th and 18th century, claret fruit punches could be found at parties of all sizes. This would be the drink of choice for Jane Austen heroines, for example. This claret punch is generally seen as the precursor of Sangria. Well actually, if you go back in time a bit more, in the middle ages there was Hippocras, a ‘punch’ made of mulled wine different kind of spices and honey. Maybe that would be the ancestor of the precursor then…Full moon parties are celebrated all over the world and they are all about having fun and sharing experiences, moments and drinks. Something happens at full moon that makes people party just a little more and makes them just a little happier. The ‘Honey I drank the Sangria’ is the ideal drink to serve at your Full Moon party. It is easy to make, you can make a lot of it in a short time and lets be honest, everybody loves Sangria, especially when it’s made with Bols Honey Liqueur.
