Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and fill it up two thirds of the way with ice cubes. Shake the cocktail for around 10 seconds and pour it into a highball glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes and garnish it with an orange wedge.

  • Variation 1: Replace Bols Amaretto for Bols Coffee liqueur to give the cocktail a more mature flavour.
  • Variation 2: Use pineapple juice instead of orange juice for a more exotic Alabama Slammer.
  • Variation 3: Squeeze the juice of a bergamot and use it instead of lemon juice to add a unique, aromatic, pleasant citrus flavour.

Master bartender note

Sweet, fruity, smooth and moreish! The Alabama Slammer is a well-balanced cocktail with notes of sweet almond coming for Bols Amaretto liqueur, peach and red berry with fresh citrus juices.

From the early 1980s onwards, this cocktail has been served as a long drink and is a favourite at college parties in America. Many people believe the cocktail was invented at the University of Alabama in 1975. However, the cocktail recipe already appears in writing in 1971.

In the Playboy Bartender's Guide, Thomas Mario describes the Alabama Slammer as a mix of 1 ounce Amaretto and Southern Comfort and half an ounce Sloe Gin and lemon juice.
