Fresh lime juice

20 ML

Orgeat syrup

5 ML

Sugar syrup

5 ML

Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and fill it up to two-thirds of the way with ice cubes. Shake the cocktail for around 10 seconds and pour it into a tiki glass and fill it with ice cubes and top it off with crushed ice. Garnish it with a sprig of mint and a lime shell.

  • Variation 1: Go for the classic Mai Tai and use rum instead of Bols Barrel Aged Genever.
  • Variation 2: Swap Bols Dry Orange for Bols Ginger for a spicy Ginger Mai Tai.
  • Variation 3: For a more boozy Mai Tai, replace the syrup with Bols Amaretto.

Master bartender note

The Mai Tai cocktail is the father of all tiki cocktails. A drink originally from 1944 that combines the beautiful flavors of orgeat with orange and rum. We add Bols Genever Barrel Aged genever to give this cocktail a bit more complexity and depth. The Aged Mai Tai is summer if you ask us!

The combination of the aged genever with fresh lime juice, sweet and fruity Dry Orange liqueur and the almond notes in the syrup is highly effective. The Aged Mai Tai is occasionally also described as a successful twist on the Daiquiri cocktail.

Legend has it that the inventor Trader Vic created this cocktail for two of his friends from Tahiti who were staying in San Francisco. This tiki cocktail owes its name to the enthusiastic reaction the two friends gave after taking a first sip: ‘Mai tai-roa aé!’ (brilliant, the best!).
