Build Bols Coffee liqueur and Bols Vodka into an ice-filled rocks glass and layer cream on top. Carefully stir the cocktail.

  • Variation 1: Swap the vodka for a Bols Genever and make a White Dutchman.
  • Variation 2: To reduce the alcohol content, use a shot of fresh espresso instead of Bols Coffee liqueur.
  • Variation 3: Whip some cream with cherry juice, you'll get a fantastically fruity cream to add to the cocktail.

Master bartender note

The White Russian cocktail was created in America in the 1960s. The cocktail is actually a creamy version of another famous vodka cocktail, the Black Russian. It's a cocktail of equal parts vodka and coffee liqueur. The White Russian cocktail was quite popular in the 1970s as one of the disco drinks but gradually went out of style in the 1980s. Everything changed in 1998 when the film The Big Lebowski was released. The protagonist, ‘The Dude’, played by Jeff Bridges, binged on White Russians that he mixed himself. The White Russian is an uncomplicated mix of Bols Vodka, Bols Coffee and cream. These flavours naturally blend together to form a sweet, creamy cocktail. It's not rocket science, nor a flavour explosion, just a delicious, simple cocktail for people who like sweet and creamy cocktails.
