  • Variation 1: Replace the Bols Amaretto with Bols Elderflower liqueur and you'll have a delicious Elderflower Sour.
  • Variation 2: Reduce the amount of Bols Amaretto to 50 ml and approximately 15 ml pear syrup. You can also add some cinnamon syrup instead of sugar syrup to give the cocktail a nice cinnamon note.

Master bartender note

A modern classic and a sweet nephew of the Whisky Sour, the Amaretto Sour. It has a beautiful balance between the sweet notes of almond from Bols Amaretto and ripe fruitiness in the liqueur versus the fresh sourness of the lemon juice.

The Amaretto Sour cocktail is one of the most famous cocktails to feature the Italian liqueur, Amaretto. It's a cocktail that's drunk the world over and remains extremely popular today. It's often the first ‘real’ cocktail bartenders learn to make and guests learn to drink.

Amaretto is Italian for ‘slightly bitter’ but the sugar in the liqueur pushes the bitter notes of the almond into the background. That being said, Amaretto still has enough depth and rich flavours to act as the backbone in this interesting Sour cocktail.

The Amaretto Sour tastes great with the addition of egg white to add a light and creamy texture. If you don't want to use egg white, you can try aquafaba or a foaming agent.
