Writing genever history in Berlin

Since its first edition in 2007, Bar Convent Berlin has grown into one of the leading international trade fairs for the bar and beverages industry. Despite the fact that a very strict registration policy caused much confusion and a last-minute run for the remaining entry tickets, this year’s number of visitors was 10.000. Luckily, we managed to secure tickets where we were about to be part of a historic initiative in the world of genever.

For the first time ever, six Dutch genever brands joined forces and showcased their brands together at one stand in Berlin named: ‘The Genever District’. By being present with multiple genever brands in one stand, we could really explain the category of genever and give the visitors the opportunity to try different genever styles and brands in one location. A formula that proved successful for spirit categories like tequila and mezcal, and now genever has followed suit.

Like they drunk genever back in the 17th century

During the two days of the Bar Convent Berlin, visitors sampled our Bols Genever Original, Barrel Aged and our latest addition to the range: 100% malt spirit. This unique spirit is our interpretation of how genever was drunk back in the 17th century; pure, malty grain flavours with a hint of juniper berry. A great addition to our range for bartenders and connoisseurs alike. Apart from sampling genevers straight, visitors were treated to an extensive list of genever cocktails, ranging from the classic Martinez and Collins to the signature Bols cocktail The Red Light Negroni, served in a lightbulb!

An event not to be missed

With hundreds of exhibitors of large international spirit brands and smaller startups, more than eight stages hosting seminars and tastings and numerous brand activations and after parties, Bar Convent Berlin can be an overwhelming experience. But it is an event not to be missed and an opportunity to meet up with old friends, catch up on the latest trends, get inspired and connect with the global bartending community.

Next year, Bar Convent Berlin will take place during three days on October 8, 9 and 10. See you there!
