The very first Bols Business class took place in the booming city of Dubai. This Business class edition was dedicated to Bols around the world as the yearly bartender competition’s Grand finale had just produced our 9th winner: Kate Gerwin. The MMI bartending academy in Dubai hosted two of the talks, firstly Kate Gerwin who shared her insights on service and effective bar management. John Parsons, UK brand ambassador for Lucas Bols, presented on the rich and colourful history of Genever. To finish off this memorable event, the bartenders moved to the desert, where the impressive backdrop of sandy dunes set the stage for two of our industry’s legends: Jared Brown and Anistatia Miller. Brown and Miller took their guests back in time to, possibly the exact, birthplace of Alcohol. This Business Class talk dives into some of histories best kept alcoholic secrets. Like many of their drinks, there is a perfect balance to be found in the talk. A good balance of humour and stone cold facts. Starting from the beginning back in 7000 BC, central China. Where the first archaeological evidence from intentional fermentation was discovered by Patrick McGovern. Due to the fact that it was complicated fermentation, rice / grains with botanicals, Jared Brown, expects more evidence proving alcohol to be much older than we currently think.
