8 Autumn Cocktails You Didn't Know You Needed

Ahh, Autumn. For a lot of people Autumn means the start of the cold season. It’s the season where we store our summer clothing and revive our sweaters and jackets. But there’s more to Autumn. Autumn is beautiful. Tree leaves fall and decorate the forest and ground with a display of beautiful colors. Autumn is also the season to enjoy delicious body-warming, endorphin-releasing cocktails. We’ve done the job for you and compiled a list of 6 delicious Autumn cocktails you didn’t know you needed.

 

Autumn Cocktail #1: Autumn Fizz

The Autumn Fizz is a simple, yet delicious autumn cocktail. Bols Pumpkin Spice liqueur adds the necessary autumn aromas you need to make this drink pop.

  • 30ml Damrak Gin

  • 30ml Bols Pumpkin Spice

  • 10ml homemade Autumn spices syrup*

  • 25ml fresh Lemon juice

  • 30ml egg white

Shake all ingredients without ice to emulsify the egg whites. Add ice cubes and shake hard again for approx. 10 seconds. Strain out in a long drink glass over cubed ice. Top up with soda water. Garnish your autumn cocktail with a slice of pear and cinnamon powder.

*Dissolve 200ml of sugar in 100ml of water in a saucepan over medium heat. Add your spices (we went with 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 star anise, 3 cardamom pods, and 4 cloves) Bring to a gentle simmer. Do not let the liquid come to a boil. Remove your syrup from the heat source and let cool down.

For a more full-body pear taste, simmer your syrup with a half pear.

 

Autumn Cocktail #2: Spiced Genever Punch

This Autumn cocktail is not only for you. Cocktails should be shared, and a Spiced Genever Punch is the perfect autumn cocktail to share. This recipe serves 6 glasses.

4 Cloves, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 star anise, 4 orange wedges, 4 lemon wedges, half diced apple

Put all ingredients in a saucepan over low heat and bring to a low simmer (do not boil). When the flavors of the spices are infused, remove from the heat source and let cool. Serve the punch warm or place in the fridge for a cold spiced punch. Garnish your autumn cocktail with some slices of orange, lemon & apple, some cinnamon sticks, and star anise.

 

Autumn Cocktail #3: Port au Pear

The Port au Pear is a balanced & comforting autumn cocktail. One that should be drunk with the eyes closed and the mind wandering away.

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain out in a rocks glass over cubed ice. Garnish your autumn cocktail with a slice of poached pear.

*Poach your pears in whatever way you like. The spices you use will decide how the cocktail will taste. We’ve poached ours in typical baking spices: cinnamon, cloves, star anise, nutmeg & vanilla. The tasty syrup works miracles in cocktails.

 

Autumn Cocktail # 4: Precious Thyme

Thyme is precious. Thyme is limited. So why not make the best of your thyme. This autumn cocktail is malty, fruity & herbal. Perfect for autumn.

Muddle the fruit and spices in a long drink glass. Add crushed ice and the remaining ingredients. Mix well with a bar spoon. Top up with tonic water. Garnish your autumn cocktail with a thyme sprig and a slice of grapefruit.

 

Autumn Cocktail #5: Forbidden Hot Chocolate

Autumn is the cuddling season. How about we make cuddling even better with this autumn cocktail. The Forbidden Hot Chocolate is what you’re missing.

  • 20ml Bols Barrel Aged Genever

  • 30ml Bols Coffee

  • 20ml Bourbon

  • 200ml Milk (use almond milk or coconut milk for nice twist)

  • 2 bar spoons of “Dutched” cacao powder

  • 2 bar spoons of sugar syrup

  • A pinch of cinnamon powder

  • A pinch of nutmeg powder

  • A pinch of salt

Bring all ingredients (except for Bols Coffee and Bourbon) to a gentle simmer in a saucepan over low heat. When all ingredients are well-mixed and warm, remove from heat source. Pour in the Bols Coffee and the Bourbon and stir. Serve in a coffee mug. Garnish your autumn cocktail with mini marshmallows on top or a nice cookie on the side.

 

Autumn Cocktail #6: Dutch Campfire

A twist on the Campfire Sling. A famous autumn cocktail, but now better.

Stir until optimal dilution is achieved. Strain out in a rocks glass over cubed ice. Garnish your autumn cocktail with a nice piece of dark chocolate or orange zest.

 

Autumn Cocktail #7: Pumpkin White Russian

Remember the Big Lebowski? Yup, the White Russian was his go-to cocktail. But have you ever tried this variation with Bols Pumpkin Spice. Yes, this autumn cocktail is worth it!!

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain out in a rocks glass over cubed ice. Garnish your autumn cocktail with grated nutmeg and cinnamon on top.
